The Tower
Meaning
The Tower is card sixteen. The classic card shows a tall stone tower on a rocky peak, struck by lightning. Its crown-shaped top is blown off, flames burst from the windows, and two people fall headfirst through the dark sky. Small sparks of light, like drops of fire, fill the air. It’s the most dramatic image in the deck: a structure that looked secure turns out to have weak foundations.
In a reading, The Tower points to sudden change, a surprise, or a truth that can’t be ignored any longer. It can feel unsettling, and the card doesn’t make it smaller than it is. But The Tower usually removes something that was already shaky, such as an illusion, a false belief, or a setup that wasn’t working. After the shock, there’s room to rebuild on honest ground. Take care of yourself first, then look at what’s left.
Upright
Sudden change, upheaval, revelation, disruption, breakthrough. An invitation to let go of what’s falling and focus on staying grounded.
Reversed
Avoided disaster, delayed change, inner upheaval, fear of change. A nudge to make the needed change on your own terms rather than putting it off.
In love
A sudden shift or revelation. For singles it can break an old belief about what you deserve; in a relationship it points to a shake-up or a truth coming to light, which can end things or lead to a more honest bond.
Career and money
Unexpected change at work, such as a restructure, a surprise, or a sudden realization. Stay calm, protect what matters, and see what the change makes possible.
As advice
Don’t cling to what’s already falling. Get steady, then build again on something more honest.
